A raw vegan is someone who is a vegan and does not eat cooked food. Raw veganism excludes foods that are heavily processed and cooked at a high temperature. The general practice is not to eat foods that have been heated to or above 48 degrees Celcius or 118 degrees Fahrenheit. It has been shown that by heating food to or above high temperatures you are destroying  Enzymes, vitamins and minerals in the food. The enzymes in the food are essential proteins which help with biochemical reactions in the body. different vitamins and minerals react differently to different temperatures. Some are able to bear higher temperatures than others before being de-natured.

Raw vegan controversy

As with many diets, there are people that are for and against it. Some doctors do not believe that a raw vegan diet has enough essential nutrients to sustain a healthy body. This is in no small part due to raw foodists cutting out foods such as whole grains, beans and legumes.

There is also a wealth of anecdotal evidence from people who have tried the diet who rave about its health benefits. Everything from curing type 2 diabetes to bowel cancer in relatively short periods of time. The main effect of a raw vegan diet and perhaps one of the reasons it became popular is weight loss. There are also some really popular YouTubers famous for being raw vegan such as FullyRawKristina who has over 1 million subscribers.


Should you go raw vegan?

Many People only go raw vegan for a short spell, like a detox. This detox period may last anywhere from 2 days to 2 months. All the fruits, vegetables and superfoods consumed on a raw vegan diet have been shown to lower inflammation. Which is the cause of many illnesses and diseases. And of course, your body will benefit from all the extra vitamins, minerals and fibre that the raw diet provides. Going raw vegan will not be as hard as it first seems because so many people have done it before. There are thousands of raw food diet recipes online.
